Tri-County Regional Planning Commission and the Peoria-Pekin Urbanized Area Transportation Study invite you to their spring symposium:
Productive Streets — The Driving Force for a Stronger Region
Each community is unique, but we also suffer from many of the same problems. We stretch ourselves and our budgets—sometimes into uncomfortable positions—to try to make ends meet. It’s important to understand how we got to be this fragile. It’s even more important to think differently about the future of development in our region. That begins with how we invest in our transportation system.
Productive Streets will be the focus of our spring symposium, which will take place May 9-10, 2018, at the Gateway Building in Peoria. The event will feature two presentations by Chuck Marohn, founder and President of Strong Towns, as well as a panel discussion featuring transportation experts from around the state.
The symposium kicks off on Wednesday, May 9 from 6pm to 8pm with a Curbside Chat with Chuck. This Curbside Chat is geared toward elected officials, policy makers, and community development professionals. In the chat, Chuck will explain, in plain language, how so many American cities have found themselves in decline after decades of sprawling “growth.” For our region to be resilient, we need to change the way we plan and build our places.
Chuck will open the second day of the symposium at 8:30am with his presentation, “Transportation in the Next American City.” Following that, we’ll hear presentations on active transportation successes from our expert panel of transportation experts from around the state. The day will conclude with a panel discussion and Q&A, facilitated by Chuck. The second day should prove interesting and useful for engineers, planners, public works folks, and anyone with an interest in transportation.
