Funding Programs

In addition to transportation planning, a number of transportation funding programs are managed at a regional level as part of our work for the Metropolitan Planning Organization of the Peoria-Pekin Urbanized Area. Click on a program below to find out more about how these resources can be used to improve transportation in our Greater Peoria communities!

The Surface Transportation Block Grant (formerly referred to as STU)  are federal funds allocated annually to the urbanized area through IDOT which are programmed by PPUATS. STBG funds may be used to fully or partially fund regionally-significant roadway projects in the Metropolitan Planning Area (MPA). READ MORE →

The Transportation Alternatives funding program is a set-aside of STBG. Projects completed with these funds can be of a variety of smaller-scale transportation projects such as pedestrian and bicycle facilities, recreational trails, or Safe Routes to School projects; community improvements such as historic preservation, vegetation management, and environmental mitigation related to stormwater and habitat connectivity. READ MORE →

The Section 5310 Program provides funding to help improve mobility for seniors and individuals with disabilities by removing barriers to transportation services and expanding the available transportation mobility options. READ MORE →

For the past three years, TCRPC staff has set aside $90,000 of annual MPO funds to be programmed for local jurisdictions in the Metropolitan Planning Area (MPA) to undertake special transportation planning projects.
