Woodford County Highway Access Ordinance

The Woodford County Highway Department, lacking a firm policy to guide its decisions in granting private accesses onto County highways, sought the creation of a highway access ordinance. A highway access ordinance is a measure for siting and approving accesses onto County highways based on the most recent engineering standards. An ordinance of this nature seeks to improve the safety of accesses and reduce the likelihood of motor vehicle accidents occurring at accesses. The primary objective of the ordinance was to ensure the safety of motorists on Woodford County roadways.
TCRPC staff collected examples of highway access ordinances from throughout Illinois in order to compare regulations contained in the ordinances. After discussing potential regulations with County staff, TCRPC staff drafted an ordinance that was reviewed by County staff and County Board members to make sure the regulations contained in the ordinance were fair and accomplished the County’s objective. Now having received approval and been adopted, the Woodford County Highway Access Ordinance ensures that access points to County highways are safer for all motorists.
